Facing the Worldwere pleased to be approached by Firecracker Films in early 2005 with the proposal for a documentary commissioned by Channel 4 highlighting the courage and strength of the children and the families that live with stigmatizing facial differences in countries with no access to the required medical treatment.
For nearly two years Firecracker followed the stories of a number of our patients over the course of a year and has highlighted the stories of Arianto, Ney, Zaynab and Eyerusalem. We hope that the documentary is able to show not only the challenges that our children face in their daily lives and the transformation that occurs not only physically but also in terms of their confidence and self belief. Their strength and courage always touches us, so it has been a joyous experience to share their stories with others.
The film crew followed their stories from their homes and throughout their months in the UK. The documentary not only follows not only the children and their surgery but also the joys and the occassional heartaches that we undergo running this charity.
“My New Face” was broadcast on Wednesday 15 November 2006 on Channel 4 at 9pm.
